Soprano Jane Manning and composer Anthony Payne were married for over 50 years, and both died in 2021.
This concert and talks is a tribute to the extraordinary partnership of these great musicians and their profound, enduring impact on the domestic and international scene.
Including works by Anthony Payne, music championed by Jane Manning, and collaborations with young composers inspired by the artistic visions and boldness of this artistic couple, the evening is a mix of things well known and new, performed by Jane’s Minstrels. It honours the ambition and passion of this musical partnership for 20th-century music in Britain.
Before the concert, the celebrations kick off at 5pm with a panel discussion, chaired by the Southbank Centre’s Director of Music, Gillian Moore CBE, including unique documentary footage of Anthony Payne from filmmaker Barrie Gavin.
